Target Audience

Who are the "young parents"?

"Young parents" typically refers to individuals who become parents at a relatively early age, often during their late teens or early twenties. It is a term used to describe individuals who start their parenting journey when they are still in the young adult phase of their lives.

User Journey

Primary Design Objectives

When we first discussed young parents, what was your initial impression? Before diving into the project, we conducted thorough research to gain objective insights that would help us better understand our users.

01

Focus Group

The focus group provided us with an excellent opportunity to meet young parents face to face. We were privileged to engage with them, hear their stories, understand their outlooks, struggles, and dreams in person. Throughout the interaction, both as a group and one-on-one, we observed three key topics that they emphasized.

02

Behavior Continuum

After conducting the focus group, we diligently analyzed all the feedback and data we gathered. Through interviews with 12 moms and 7 dads, we utilized their behavioral characteristics to construct a behavior continuum diagram. Our primary objective was to identify patterns in their behavior and uncover commonalities among them, aiming to derive valuable insights from the gathered information.

03

Persona

By using the behavior continuum pattern, we shaped the personas. We found that both moms and dads share a strong desire for knowledge and continuing education, seek a sense of belonging in their social circles, and display high financial awareness and eagerness for opportunities.

Young United Parents is a platform that offers unwavering support and empowerment to young parents during their parenting journey. We provide essential resources, valuable information, and a caring community to help them overcome isolation and societal stigma.

Mid-fidelity prototype

Based on our research and data models, we developed a mid-fidelity prototype to gain a better understanding of our users' ability to access useful resources and information using our proposed design. We conducted usability testing to observe their reactions and listen to their feedback.

User Journey

Testing Results

During the testing, users engaged in tasks such as completing the onboarding process, where they could set up their personal profile and select topics of interest. Valuable feedback was obtained regarding the specially designed experiences for both registered users and "guest" users. While registered users enjoyed broader access, the "guest" users' access was intentionally limited to address privacy and security concerns.

We also received valuable feedback regarding the search and filtering functionalities, particularly when it came to event registration. As the chat function is a core feature of the app, we also received insightful feedback on how to enhance that experience and effectively utilize threads while seeking resource partnerships. In this initial prototype, we emphasized content types, including articles, videos, and threads.

Lastly, we conducted a card sort study to gather feedback on how to improve navigation label names and identify terms that resonated with our young parent audience.
